Shit works...i tried it and the shit works
It works, it works well. Try it!!
does the towel trick work i m about to try it hofully it works and doesnt screw anything ese up
it works, but it's not permanent. It only re-heats the solder that MS used so that there could be a connection. however, the solder will soon crack and heating it again wont work, it has to be re-soldered
this dude is full of shit i just tried it didnt fuckin work
I heard you have to wait til the 3 lights become 2 lights then you let it cool. I tried it but it took 40 mins for the lights to become 2 and i let it cool. I tried it twice but I know it works because of other people. Anyone got any hints to do it better
i just tried this and it worked
I can't believe it worked, but it did. Wow. O.O
I just did it and hell it works now what to fix it for good
Yeah i did it about an hour ago to make my girl happy she was gonna have to break out the little plastic card to buy a new. It did work booted it with no problems. A few hints.. Wrap in 3 toys while its on and three red lights are on let that sucker cook for about 20 minutes turn it off and then back on remember 3 red lights = general fault may not be the soldering on yours So turn it off and back on dont wait for it to cool. If its green and starts then turn it off and leave it be so it can cool if its still red you got another problem sorry. But this does work i tried it laughing to myself the whole time thinking how stuid i was was even trying so a dumb idea. But now im able to play again so thats great no idea how long it last ive heard from 5 minutes to 5 hours to a week to 3 months sho who knows.
turns out you can only do this trick about 4 or 5 times before the Xbox catches fire;-)
I've sent my 360 to microsoft, they didnt fix it cuz I had opened it 6 months ago for 'research' ... So I've done everything from the towel trick to the 12 cent fix, to the 8 cent fix, and they all work temporarily...
It sucks cuz I told them over the phone I had opened it and they said they'd still fix it. But they didn't. It's not modded either. (i didn't have sata capabilities). So for the skeptics, yes, the towel trick works sometimes. Just, if you get it working for a few hours, leave that fucker on as long as your budget allows for the power bill to keep it from failing on you again, which it will.
I'm so pissed.

i tried this and i was so excited when it worked!
but...........theres no picture just sound......sogay.
anyone help me out?
The towel trick is only a temporary trick and doesnt fix it permanently go here to learn how to fix the 3 red light error http://xbox-360-repair-guide-ebook.blogspot.com/20
it does work.all you have to do is overheat it untill it cuts off and shows two red lights. next you turn it off and let it cool. then it should work. not permenant though
YES IST WORKS!!!!!
I tried the towel trick many times and still no success. The "towel trick did not work at all"
this trick worked perfect for me but then after about 1hr of gameplay my 360 just completly freezed, so i did the trick agian and amazingly it worked...but this time i am letting it cool for about 4 or 5 hours before i play again... i suggest you do the same!
this is temporary no matter wot ne1 ses, the 360 freezes virtually all of the time
Hey there that technique is only temporary and doesnt really fix that problem goto http://how-to-fix-xbox-360-problems.blogspot.com/ ti find a permanent solution
I was skeptical about this fix, essentially identifying it as a hoax, after research it seemed many people have had luck with the fix. I tried it this morning, my xbox is cooling down right now after the towel heating, but i did start it up breifly and it was working, good luck, its not bull
My 360 is still running strong, but I've yet to do so much as even MOVE it from the spot it's been sitting in for months now.
it didnt work i tried 11 times
Ok.. well... i have recently got this red light and i did it... i have been doing it for about three weeks now everyday... what i have learned is that the more you do this the xbox will be damaged forever.... i believe people will have better luck if they just go out and buy a new one...
okay i ll try this evening.. better luck me...
Wow I Just tried it and it worked! left it untill 2 red lights and it shut down. Then put a fan next to it on high for bout 15 mins then back to cod4!
im not so sure the xbox is a electrical item with circuits and overheating them should damage them severely
any comments to help make it easier to stick my box in the towel of a microwave
It worked for me too do you guys know how long it will last and if xbox will still repair my 360
im doin it as we speek but if i turn it back on straight after havin it on for 10 minutes dont u think its overheated?
I also tried it on my xbox 360 elite, but it worked for a while, as soon as I start to play the game, xbox would froze and three rings of death would appear again.
I ve tried it many times and problem is still there.
I recommend to all xbox360 owners to send back their consoles with three rings of death to the microsoft Co. Let them deal with it.
thnx and good luck all/.......
My xbox, which was purchased one week after release, finally bricked on me. I wrapped it in a towel with the power on for 15 minutes, turned it off for about 10, then powered it up...it worked. We'll just see how long it lasts. Thanks for the instructions!
O.k listen up yeah the towel trick does work, but it actually heats and melts your graphics card, so you won't be able to do this over and over again. If it's broken MS will fix it and ship it for free.. do it the right way and not this lame way, think about it, if you send it of when the xbox has been messed with "Toewl Trick" then they won't fix it.. this reason been because you tried to fix it yourself and under the warrenty guide they will not suuport you. So think before you actually do this.. It's not a smart move so do not try and be smart.
The red lights happened to me, and yeah i am abit pissed with MS but im glad there fixing it for free, and shipping it for free. They will make sure it works perfectly and will not break again. Unlike this move which will only last for a few days then break again.. If your xbox is having problems phone MS it's a free number and there really helpful because they know the problem happens with there systems, Xbox has alot of improvments to make, but do not try and be smart putting towels over your system, thinking your making a smart move when really your destorying your system. I kjnow there must be alot of noobies out there thinking whats this guy talking about, Mine works fuck him... but yeah it will work for a few days and wont work again then i'll laugh.. Just leave it to the pro's.
If you Have the problem with your 360 where you are in a game and the pic become all fuzzy and darker than suppose to be go back to the dashboard and wait till the picture come back to normal if it dont come back to normal and you dont feel like waiting to see your xbox overheat turn it off and wait a while for it to cool down then turn it on you might see the problem that the picture is not showing so do it 2 ways
1) leave your 360 on for 15 min then let it cool for 15 min then see if it works
if not
2) do the wet towel trick with 1 towel. let it sit for a good 15-20 min and let it cool for a little and turn it back on it should work
P.S. but i can't promise you that your picture will stay perfect so you might have to do 1 of these step over agian when it messes up agian..
Thank you
I havent used the towel trick yet guys. can you use any type of towel? Ill try it and see how it works out. Thnx
Also i dont want to melt the graphic card. Is there any other way to fix it instead of sending it in???
Okay so i got the no picture but sound error and im waiting for my box.Do you guys think i should try this while im waiting? Will MS still take it in if i do the towel trick??Pleasee anwser!
yes it does work, but after you do this can you send it back to microsoft?
i only have two lights. and the deadbox wont evenstay on long enuff to try the towel trick. but then i let it cool for hours and it still dont work. any suggestions?
This worked for me for about 2 hours then it stopped.
It can work but doesnt always last for long
omfg it worked ty so much its been working 4 a week i love you no homo
You people complaining about voiding the warranty, Sit back and think for a second.
How the hell would microsoft know if you wrapped a towel around your 360. -_-;
Hmm any of you know how to fix no image but sound
I've also got the no image but sound problem, any suggested solutions? I've read elsewhere this is again due to crappy solder connections so I suppose the towel trick might work?
My 360's already been repaired by MS once and is now out of warranty so if this doesn't work I'll just junk this one and buy a 360 Arcade, I'm not paying MS £60 to keep my 360 for 4 months to get is back and have it break again...
Holy shit it worked........slap me
Holy shit it worked........slap me
sweet i actually fixed it with the cool towel trick, so everyone that has a xbox like towelly says " DONT FORGET YOUR TOWEL" or was that Mr hankie the piece of shit, well im now able to rock out rocka band and actually the games read faster then when i got it new
I used let my xbox on like for 6 hours, then turned it off and on and it worked first it freezed like 3 times but on the 4 time worked and since the works, I dont know what to do now, because i'd already called to microsoft and they told me they'd fix it for free and sent me a number so that i can call ups and they pick it up, but if i send my xbox and it works, i think they are just gonna turn it back to me, what do u think???
It does work, but only for a while. Then you have to do it again. And after a while of doing it over and over it stops working, so you have to send it in. Then they send it back with a note saying they won't fix it because tehre is evidence of tampering.
i found a guide on this site here <a href="http://www.xboxfixes.com">www.xboxfixes.com</a> they are everywhere! the thing worked and my xbox has been fine ever since.
Mines just finished cooking, got another 15 minutes before using.
tested it right after cooking and green lights :D, just letting it chill now.
Can you pay to get it sent into microsoft if you have no warrenty?
it does work n i am smiling now....never turn off the air while u r playing with xbox.
Well I have sound but no image problem, so Im gona go ahead and let it cook for about 20 minutes. Maybe Ill throw it in the freezer for a quick cool down..lol
the towel did not work and im sending it in tommarow but im going to have a cig so i wrapped the xbox in a thermal survival blanket, towel trick on mad steroids. if it works kool if not im sending it in ne ways to to hell with microsoft
iight pplz i just did the towel trick on my xbox 360 elite and it works heres what u do for the slow pplz that are out there u take out everthing out the hard drive and all the wires then put the power wirer bak in just the POWER WIRER and rap 3 towels around your 360 then try 2 turn the 360 on the the towels rap around it just push were the on button is on a lil hard so it and turn the 360 on then u got 2 let it stay on for 20mins yes 20mins so it can get all hot then after the 20mins is up u take all the towels off and turn of your 360 for 15mins wen the 15 mins is up u put all the other wires bak on it and turn it on then boom it should work again and if it dont send it 2 microsoft u cheap fucks lmao
Im home sick 2day thought i would play some halo 3, i turn on my 360 and the red ring of death appears! I fuckin get super pissed! I began to think about what could fix this without buying another one.... tried everything! I figure doing some research on how to fix it would be very useful. So i saw the towel trick on youtube, and thought it looked like bull shit, but im desprit! So its all wrapped up right know im waiting.... DAMN i hope it worx out! I have confidence it will!
I suppose you all want a good recent review on this towel trick... Was sitting playing a new game my gf brought me... 20 mins in them BAM RROD thought i'd never get it....
I have a first gen console lasted almost 3 years so before i XCLAMP it with my mate i had a laugh and tried this... (note my 360 is cracked and microsoft will not take it so i had nothing to lose aka fix or buy new one)
Trick is to wrap with 3 towels yep tight and snug like it's going to bed and power the beast on (3 was the magic number if you all watched that vid of the bold guy who breaks his gun :( )... 20 minutes in it smelled like burning hair so i took it out left in conservatory to cool down for least good half hour!! then a day as it was late already. Tested after half hour and booted up fine showed the xbox logo and i was sat there with my girlfriend in amazment laughing, lifetime wise it should last from 4 days to several months (Several hours if your unlucky) and although this is a temp trick i shall write when mine dies... Was Toweleled on the 7th October 08, so far gamed for 2 hours and works great! Nimon
yer great it worked! for 3 seconds then it spazzed out and died :-P
I picked up Fable 2 last night, and while playing, the screen went all pixelated and my tv went "SCREEEEEE!!!" at me. I turned off the frozen console, turned it back on, and had RRoD. After 1 hour of play of Fable 2 =(
I tried the towel trick 4 times today, and it has not worked once for me. I believe you guys that it does work, but I just can't seem to get it to work for me ;_;
Whoever made this, please help...
I try this and time and time again my console shuts off after 2 minutes of letting the red rings run in the towel, I let it cool for another 15 minutes and it still is red. I tried it with the hardrive (or whatever that thing is in the top haha) and everytime I do it, it just shuts off after 2 minutes.
Please Help!!!!
Hey people remember this is only a temp fix. If it dosent help you at all then you might have other problems other then soldering like the termal paste not placed right leading to GPU or CPU problems. also it might be bad ram so try the xclamp fix. I donot recommend unless your warrenty expired or you already opened it and voided your warrenty.
Heres a link. http://www.x-clamp-fix.com/catalog/product_info.ph But your best bet is to buy a new one or send it in to microsoft for a free 360. mine worked for bout 5day then quit on me. so mine is likly to be soldering or bad ram or screwed up GPU or CPU
I forgot to mention is some games may overclock and ruin your 360 depending on how your drive takes it. so careful with the games you play since GTA and Halo 3 screwed mine up and i tried many thing to fix it but only way is to overheat then turn it back on instantly.
Well... It worked for me.I wouldn't say that it's a permanent fix but it's working for now.
I would suggest only doing this though if you:A) Don't have a warranty.B) Are planning on getting another one in 2-3 months.
does anyone know if you can do this same trick if you have 1 red flashing light which means E74 error?
i tried to turn it on with the red lights without the towel on...
i just leave it on for a while then automatically it will start up on its own...
but then when i play for few hours it started again...
could it be the same thing without the towel?
yes i had the e74 comment after sum intense gears 2 on insane... i wrapped in 3 towels.. heated for 30 mins and placed in freezer(yes freezer) for 15 min. let it cool for an hour and it works now.. although havent tried playing for too long since i havent gotten my copy of left 4 dead yet to put it to the test. btw got my xb last aug. 07
Me and my friend tried the towel trick out of desperation thinking it wouldn't work; but after doing the towel trick it started working again! Awsome!
how long untill it cracks cause i only have the e 74 error
My xbox 360 shuts down in the towel during the Towel Trick.. is this supposed to happen or no?
Did this on my Elite yesterday. I didn't have RROD but I had the sound & no image problem. I wrapped it up in 3 towels & switched it on. Must be some sort of safety feature that switches it off when it gets too hot but safety was thrown out of the window when my 360 decided to give up so I just kept turning it on again. After about 20 mins it was mega hot but no red lights still so just let it cool off with my fingers crossed. It actually worked! Played for about an hour yesterday & a few hours today with no problems but I think I'll be getting my wallet out for a new one pretty soon into the new year. Unless of course "what hasn't killed it has made it even stronger?" Probably not
mine got the 3 red lights, then i turned it off, then on and it worked! what does this mean? im so annoyed if it breaks, its so close to christmas and i know ill get games ill want to play
Still going string after 2 days of play. Tried a few new games & no problems. Can it last through xmas?
The best way to have a permanent fix with towel is buy the xecuter pads from diveno.com then when you replace the chip pads with xecuter do the towel trick, this cuases the motherboard back to origanal shape and will stay since the new pads hold it there, the problem was the x-clamps that caused more heat and the chip pads were easly squash so the mother board would bend causing miss caonnection with cpu so with the replacement of the xecuter pads its a perminant fix with the heat problem
i dont get it, i didi the trick until there was only 2 red lights, turned it on, and rrod is still there.HELP!!!!
Please note, if you have warrenty,DO NOT do the towel trick, it is a very temporary fix, send it back to MS and they'll give you a replacement. By doing the towel trick, you not only heat up the CPU/GPU(which is what is needed) but also other parts of the console that arent designed to heat up to those tempertautres, this can cause further damage to the console.
I did the towel trick and my xbox worked perfectly for a week then froze and when i next turned it on 3 lights came on agen so im towel tricking again =)
it works great. even faster if you have a very thick jacket that will fit all the way around. and MS will still fix it. i have an uncle that works for microsoft and he said they don't even check. they just go through their checklist, test it, then send it back. no questions asked.

ya so i hav used this towel trick 4 times now and when i tried my fifth today it didnt work again. so for me its off to microsoft for the xbox. but ya if u use it too much it will catch fire! mine started smoking eventually. i freaked out so i dont recommend using it more than four times.
my xbox has the 3 rings so i tried the towel trick and sadly it did not work. I heard that you 360 is supposed to have 2 red lights while overheating and mine did not so maybe i was not heating it enough. Mine is not under warranty so anything will help i guess.
Just worked for me
Worked like a charm on no video/av with working sound Xbox elite, cooling off on my buddy's 3rrod right now... we'll see.
This just proves to me as a techie that the gpu/cpu isn't properly seated/cooled.
My computer I spent $extra for l33t cpu fan cooler. Heat kills hardware. duh microsoft. Duh.
My xbox had no sound or picture on it I tried everything and then saw this trick...It worked so I played for a couple of hours after letting it cool down and now next morning it is back to blank screen....Im thinking of just buying an cheap arcade type xbox but does it have a place for my old harddrive and will my cables for my hidef tv work and look the same as it did on gaming console....thx for your help
I FUCKING LOVE YOU =P, this actually worked man pretty fast, thanxs man !!! =D
I'm confused, but wouldn't the xbox 360 overheat if you but it in the Towel? Can this work for the E 74 too or no?
Ummm....Cant you just put a fan behind your 360 when you play it
it wont heat up or anything...? answer my question at top too please !!!
IT worked ffs yes !!
david howd urs work, whatd you do .
worked first try for me and i had 1 red ring with the E74 error message hope it last long
only worked for 2 hours then the picture started to go and now i have the 1 red quadrant blinking red
if this dont work im gena piss on oprahs face
yea it worked really good
Does the cord have to be hooked with the xbox
I have an xbox elite. wrapped it up for 25 minutes and it works
Corza, your a bloody genius. Somebody finally stated the obvious.
How the hell will MS know if you wrapped your XBox in a towl?
They wouldnt.
Just bought a 360 from Ebay with the 3 red lights for £50, tried the towel trick now works fine !!!
I used one medium towel, wrapped it around sideways so there is a flap at the front and rear so you can plug the power and component (tv) lead in, turned it on and let it simmer for 20 minutes.
You need to plug the tv lead in to test, otherwise it will show 4 red lights as a warning that the lead is not plugged in.
When cooled for 10 minutes serve with a large helping of Call of Duty 5 and a cold beer.
Enjoy.
shit yo trying it rite now!! 10 mins to go?!?!?! hope it works
shit yo trying it rite now!! 10 mins to go?!?!?! hope it works
towel trick works 20 minutes exactly wrap it good
towel trick works 20 minutes exactly wrap it good
The towel trick works but if u do it to many times your graphic card gets ruined. PS if u are playing a game and the TV screen is messed up then it means that your graphic card is a piece of SHIT if u do it to much that happens. Unfortuantley it is not permanent.
thus sucks
yo dude, thanx man im trying it now- hopefully it will work
Well, Im conservative so I tried it in trashbag for 10 mins. Then let it go in fridge for about 5 mins. I connected my intercooler to it, and started her up. Works great.
I actally know this is a legit fix. I am a+ in computer repair. I suggest never EVER heating any system for 25 mins....Your doing more harm than any possible good. I even played 2 hours of Halo Wars after. Played a DVD also after that and its sounds great. The intercooler is the key guys. Keep it cool and keep it dust free. Dont smoke around electronics. PERIOD
Towl trick does work...but is temp solution...Just so you all know...Microsoft does not Warranty your Xbox if you are only getting the Lower Right Red light...or E74 error after one year. Mine broke today a mere 10 days after my 1 year warranty is up and the absolutley will not warranty it for me. I have to pay th 99 - 129 bucks...Even though its still an internal hardware error of their fault just like the RROD, they won't fix it free after 1 yr...oh and another thing about fixing...They don't fix "your Xbox" and return it...they ship you one back that's already been re-furbished and then some poor schmuk gets you r now refurbished POS...What ever happened to the custoer is always right? It was replaced by lets make cheap crap that breaks after our 1 year warranty charge them 300 bucks and then charge em 100 more to fix their broken crap!
Well I had the 3 red lights of death before about a year ago and sent it back to microsoft and they fixed it (so I thought lol), its been a year now and bang I got the 3 red lights of death again and microsoft won't do anything so I took my xbox apart and cleaned it all but I had no luck so I done the towel trick and its back from the dead.
this works with the one light e47 error as wel just done it been playin a hour and its went bak to what it was lke afore a swicthed it off if a swicth it off its not goin ti trun back on agian am gawn to hav to do the trowel tick agian

Did this after getting RROD twice within two weeks, and it worked both times. Then popped on an intercooler and haven't had a problem since, It's been two months.

Not don it. It can damage the xbox further.
I put my xbox in the freezer for 30 min first and it would load with no RRoD but only until I turned it back off. So I put it in the freezer for 30 min, took it out and did the towel trick while playing a game until it shut down and gave me the 2 red rings (overheating), then put it back in the freezer for awhile. Been working now for 2 days.
This is what i did and it works take apart your xbox 360 after you've done the towel trick (the body i mean) and i left my xbox 360 there just laying there for 3 to 4 days i left it alone and tried to turn it back on. Wah la the xbox was fully functional agan but it lasted me bout 7-8 months before it did it again but seems like a resonable time to me
Before ytou try and get an intercooler make sure you do research on it. It blows your power box and your cords get damaged it sucks to much energy and blew out my friends 360. It was an intercooler he went threw 4 brands and still i had to help fix it my way
Dont do this, it causes more damage and when you really do fix it it will cost more.
i did the trick and im not sure if im doing anything wrong i did everything the dude says but after 5 mins of being on my Xbox just truns of and doesnt heat up, wats up with that???
Yeah guys it does work and if you dont move your 360 and you keep it venilated and cool it will work permantly but if you move it you just shortened the life span down so if you even move it or let it get hot it turns temproary but I tried this trick 7 months ago and i havnt moved my 360 sice and it still works!

Right i had an old xbox from like December 07 and it got 1 red light bout 6 months ago, i did towel trick and it worked for about 2 weeks then i was damned cos it was chipped and now its lying on my floor whilst my new xbox about 6 months old has just got 1 red light and ive done the trick but it hasnt worked WTF. Its not chipped so im sending it back. NEVER CHIP YOUR XBOX! But xbox's are so annoying i might just buy a PS3 - if you cant beat em, join em STUPID clever JAPS!
I was a SSgt in the US Air Force I worked on the circuit cards for the f-16. In theory this works because the heat produced by the towel trick does reset the chip because of the mass amount of heat. I tried this last night on my Xbox 360 and low and behold it worked! The problem with this method is flawed because of the heat damage to the rest of the unit but if you consider the alternative when you have a broken xbox no warrenty this is a viable options yes replacing the thermal paste will work but it's not perm don't believe it. I have replaced my several times personally and from other repair shops. It's a cycle the red light because once it begins it will continue till you replace the ball on the chips with accually high grade lead used in many electronics for high heat conditions. TRY IT if you think you are replacing your xbox in the near future(2-4months) O BTW THE MICROWAVE IS BS!!! the heat will destroy the metal componets i worked with RF radiations on the f-16 black box componets that is complete horse shit and you will fry your xbox think about it. In theory it's melting the soder back in place so whats the difference between the microwave and towel? Simple the towel is a less extreme method of melting the soder which will eventually crack and break. Microwave? Crack and set on fire the board..... How those guides tell you how to fix your xbox is simple btw. Just simplely put take the xbox box apart take the heat sinks off clean the thermal paste off use a heat gun to melt the soder back in the place reapply the thermal paste(reassemble) press the magic button and boom. thats it all there is to it. so if u want to waste money on the guide by all means i just saved you 20 bucks.
His talk was all the encouragement i needed to try this.
Laughed when I saw the video, laughed even harder when it actually worked! How the hell!!?
am trying the towel trick now, fingers crossed
am trying the towel trick now, fingers crossed, check out http://www.diaryroom.net they have detailed instruction on fixing the problem for free
the towel trick doesnt work, well at least no for me. i was getting the one red light and the e74 message. however i was able to get my 360 on by standing it upright and rocking it using gravity side to side while repeatidly pressing it on and off. this allows the x clamp rings to connect when turning the xbox on. you have to do this for about five minutes. when on my xbox works fine without error untill i turn it off, this is when i get the red lights again, so i have to repeat the above to get it switched back on. goto to my website http://www.diaryroom.net their you'll see a video of me showing you.
hey ive got 2 red rings, and its not overheating because the air being blown is still cool when i receive the rings, any tricks to help it?email at sealsoup@aim.com
why do you have 2 wii's?
i did the towell trick on 5, 360 systems and it worked on four. it wont work forever though. someone called it the wet towel trick......do not use a wet towel. ever!!!!!
Worked for me several times. But it only works for a couple hours.
I left my xbox 360 in the towels , turned on for about 50 minutes , and it STILL didnt go onto 2 lights. :( any suggestions ?
does it work on 1 red light?
@fatrickchords does it work on 1 red ring?
@fatrickchords does it work on 1 red ring?
This works because the heat from wrapping it in a towel and running it re-saulders the chips in ur x box that came unsauldered, causing the ring of death. (or so i have been told)
does it work if your xbox gets 2 red ring as well ?
It works but try putting the Xbox in the fridge for 2-3 hours after the towel wrap to aid cooling and the re-setting process for the solder
it works but im gonna put it in my freezer to help it cool thanks bald dude!!!
My xbox recently broke 2. Although i had a different sort of a problem were i was not receiving any picture or sound through my TV. It was also weird as i didnt have the red ring of death either. I tried hooking a different TV up to it along with new HDMI leads and still nothing. I was so fukin annoyed as it happened when my lil bro was playing it, so i blamed it on him lol. i rang up xbox support and they said it would cost 80£ to fix, but my wallet is empty until the end of the month so i tried this towel trick ive been hearing so much about as i cannot live without my "sexbox" (as i call it lol).
All i did was remove everything from my xbox so its just bare with only the power cable plugged in then i wraped it in 3 towels and let it cook for about 25 minutes whilst regularly checking on it just incase it caught fire. after the time was up i removed the towels and turned the console of and waited 30 minutes for it to cool. (note, your xbox may turn itself of during the towel trick due to extreme overheating, but this is ok as we want it to over heat, so if it does this, just turn it on again. it happened to me about 3 times).
And to my amazement it actually worked, lol i couldn't believe it. Its still working so far and it has been 3 days with about 2 hours of call of duty WAW each day, so i hope it lasts at least until i get paid.
good luck to anyone who is going to try it.
You don't have to wrap it in a towel. Just use bobby pins or toothpicks to block the fans and let it run, it'll overheat and do the same thing. Remember if you do this too many times you'll screw up your 360 worse than it already is cause the overheating cooks all of the components and over time that's not good.
hope it works im tryig it now XD
I did the towel trick 15+ times already and still doin it
I tried this method and it worked. No matter who have this problem I would give it a try before losing it for a month or long. Mine is working fine and I have not perform this trick gain yet. I will update when it go out I'm still under the 3 year ext....
only lasted about 2 days for me then went back to the red ring
I didn't work for me and I'm totally pissed.
Look's like I'll have to get it fixed.
The best thing to do if this happens to you is to sell your Xbox to some guy. The second best thing to do is to try to fix it yourself - especially if you don't have warranty on it. Don't try the towel fix cause it will permanently damage your console and you know it. What you have to do is take apart the console, remove the heat sinks, clean the glu, reapply and reassemble. If you are familiar with electronics, by all means do it yourself, it is not that difficult, but if you don't have a lot of experience with this stuff, for God's sake, just invest in a good $20 manual and you follow the step by step instructions and your can fix your Xbox in under and hour.
Cheers!

im tryin it right now
It does work but it will only last for about a month it is only worth it if your xbox is out of warenty
worked on my friend's 360 twice, i'm trying it out on mine, lets hope this works.
SWEET IT WORKS i almost thought i would have to sell it but hey it worked for more than a week i did it like 2 months ago and it still works...
i thought i was gonna have to send it in for repairs and my xbox is out of warranty. but i tried this, and PERFECT it worked. i didnt have any red rings but the video didnt work. even after trying to get the Secondary code. there was none. so after taking the xbox apart and applying new thermal grease and then this towel trick, i got 2 red rings, turned off the xbox and then back on, and the xbox instantly worked. i didnt wait at all. =D
doesnt work for me
1 red lght means ur xbox is done broken!!!2 means overheated 3 means a cord and card problem 4 means the av cord is not pluged in ps i did the towel trick about 3 times and only worked for 2-3hours but no i got 2 lights which i never got befor lets see how long it last now =]
hay my xbox 360 broke during a smackdown vs raw 2010 marathon lolol i think i overheated my console so i looked it up on youtube and i found a cool video .. so i did what it said rapping 3 towels around the xbox and letting it bake like a bitch haha i swear my xbox was hot as a mofo i then left it for 12 mins and to my surprise it came back on im gobsmacked lol its now half 10 at nite and it happend and half 4 today so iv had 5 hours of gaming and it works but if it breaks again its going back to microsoft for the secound time ... but hay i didnt think the towel trick would work but it did so im happy i got a good gaming day out of smackdown vs raw 2010 so thanks to the person who came up to this i owe you one thanks man i will let you all no how it gets on !!!!
its been heating for like 20 min but it smells like its burning should i stop i dont want a fire
damn my dvd drive melted wtf???? it wont open i cracked open the case the shit melted wtf man?
it didnt work that stupid this is rigged
So weird this shit actually works. Did this 2 times. The first time it only worked for a day. Since the second time my 360 has been working ever since. So I say "let the motherfucker burn" :P
F yea this technique works like a charm, but if my xbox 360 gets the red ring of death again, im worried that if i do this it might damage it so i might just open it up and fix it myself instead of paying 90 bucks to microsoft
thats because microsoft cons you from all your money and wants you to suck it
Towel Trick worked for me, well i used a blanket. Doesn't really matter if it only lasts temporarly i've got a pending repair on it, but on launch date of MW2 i don't wanna be without
hey ive done this 4 times in a row now it works for about a week then you have to do it again. but its better than buying a new xbox for some. im getting a new one soon only because i cant be bothered doing this every week but thats just me. remember to do it for 15mins minimum and let it cool for at least half an hour or more. if you rush into turning it back on it wont work give it time.
I did it it worked and i shit bricks
i just sent my xbox thats in warranty away to get fixed but in the meantime i got my old out of warranty xbox out which has been bust for like 8 months to try this trick so i could play cod mw2 (i thought this towel trick thing was bullshit before) and it actually worked perfectly dont know how long it will last but hopefully a couple of weeks til my other 1 gets back :D
The towel trick does work. I've done it many times. Just be sure not to overheat it for long for it could melt the hardware inside. Let it overheat until it get's the two ring of death (over heating) and then let it cool for about 15 minutes. It should work, but temporarily. I have to do this every couple of weeks, it isn't so bad.

I TRIED... and... WORK FINEEEE
REALLY !!!
I CAN'T BELIEVE
Why does my xbox not turn hot after the 25 minutes is over? I've wrapped the towels around the xbox very tightly.

hey, I TRIED IT AND THE SHIT ACTUALLY WORKS!!! I DON'T KNOW FOR HOW LONG THOUGH... I HOPE ITS FOR A LONG TIME. lol
360 help plz. Wrap it in two towels and unplug the av cords. that will do the trick
It Works For Only About A Week Then Bakk To The Same Shyt
If Ur Lucky It Would Work Or It Might Get Even More Messed Up
Well the trick worked for me..............bt don knw how long will it last
is there anything special you have to do to egt it to work?
please help my xbox has no pic but sound im about to punch a baby if u have any advice please help me... im about to try the towel trick cross fingers =)
ok guys listen when u do this it frys the mother board and will only work for up to 3 day! it is onyl a very slight temporary fix!
Hey guys I have been having problems with my xbox on and off sometimes it's good others not so much. I has a mind of its own. :o Anyways I tried the towel trick it worked for about 5 minutes but also I rushed into playing MW2 soo.. yeah bad for me :) anyways idc this xbox is like 3 years old and has got its playing time well worth. I should just pick up an arcade.
does it work 4 1 light also
hi i tryed this it didnt work, tryed it for ten mins the first time no joy..so i tryed it again for 2 hours n u no wot guys it didnt half smoke but it works now haha try it for 2 hours
so, exactly what part of the circuitry has the cold solder? I would prefer to just re-flow whatever chip is the problem than baking it in a towel and overheating the entire card.
This doesnt work it started worrking then it just froze and the red ring came up
this guy isnt get n laid
this still works with out using the actual towers lol ive done it a couple times now
I just tried it waiting for it to cool off smells kinda like smoke lol think i burnt something in it but i hope it works
ok, so i did this and it works :) but when i am in the middle of a game the screen randomly like freezes like pixley. :( what do i do?
Hey i tried this yesterday i thought it was bullshit but it actualy worked and hasnt stopped yet. Ever since ive done the towel trick ive played it 3-5 hours and no freezing idk how long it will last.
ok i think i have a weird problem, first off i've got 4 lights flashing, second when i tried my box only stayed on for about 4-5 minutes then it turned ITSELF off. i did this about 3 times, i think my box might just be f.u.b.a.r but i wanted to make sure, any insight guys? :(
Sadly today my xbox has the red ring again so i can say my xbox lasted 4 days. So i guess the towel trick is ment to work for 4-5 days.
Ive done it over 5 times and it works everytime. but im sure at one point i will have to just send it in or buy a new one
this guy needs to get laid
Ok, so, I didn't read it on the inernet before trying it, my friend just told me about it. I just did it, but I used many towels and I thought after a while, it would just start working and I let it go on for about 20 minutes.. I read this while it was doing it and was all "Uh-oh" so I ran to my xbox and it was way over heated, the thick layer of towels were even pretty hot. I'm waiting for it to cool down, but I hope I haven't made my xbox worse..
Ive just finished heating the system, now im waiting for it to cool down. Fingers Crossed.
dnt work :@:@ grrrr
It is working now.
It works and it hasn't froze for a week!!
I did do this towel trick because I had refurbished X-Box that had no warranty and it worked. I am still weary about it but it is still working.
I only had one red light and the e74 error message, I did the towel trick and it worked perfectly I wonder how many days this thing is gonna last.
I only had one light on the ring red. I wrapped it and after about 5 mins it overheated and shut off..waited 5 mins and it worked!
LOL i was reading the comments not thinking about my xbox that i was blanket/towel rrod fixing i fucken had it on for fucken like fucken 20 fucken mins fucken nearly fucken ruined my fucken xbox lol fucken hell gave me a fucken fright oh well its fucken cooling down now i hope it fucken works ae?
I just did it and it has worked so far. Ive been playing for about a half hour but will it stop working eventually and if it will will it be fast?
Hitman wants to play his xbox
It works only for a little while for me, and i have to do it again.I dont want to go back to Microsoft and get my Xbox back to find that in 3 months as soon as my warranty is gone, it breaks.... But the Xbox 360 Elite has the "falcon" chip that can prevent one. But look on the back of the box to make sure. It will say 175W or something... I highly recommend this product.
This is the info I got from an electronics expert from generatorpanels.com that works on hardcore cell phone towers and serious electronics repair jobs. Apparantly if you hold down the little button you use to connect a wireless control... hold it continuously and hit the eject button once then count the flashing lights, then hit the eject button again and count the lights, hit the eject buttons again and count the lights, then finally a fourth time... and count the lights... you end up with four numbers that give you the exact code that is wrong with the system. For most of the three ring of death codes the result is that the system is essentially flagged as having an issue that needs repair and will not work again without service --- UNLESS - you overheat it and then it does a complete reset of the error codes. So that is how the towel trick works sometimes for a little while... sometimes permently by basically reseting the error code and allowing the xbox 360 to continue functioning until it once again flags something as bad. In my case it was a solder joint failure. He was able to fix the issue, overheat it, and all was well. The towel trick really is nothing more than telling the Xbox 360 to 'try again' and work. Without it then you can turn it on and off as much as you want and it's never going to do anything.
Worked wonders for me fixed my red ring of death for 3 weeks and counting :)
i tried on my elite, i left it for around an hour under the towels, still didnt work...the 2 lights didnt come on....and tips?
Just got E74 code (1 ring)had it wrapped for 30 mins and now I have 2 red light. Giving it time to cool before I restart.
IT WORKED!
I had the no video but sound problem. When i did this, it worked BUT... after about 10 min it would freeze and i had to restart. Now its back to no video. I noticed after i "cooked" it seem to have a bad picture even in HD, So i think its making it worse but if your xbox is like my xbox... Crap. Then what the hell try it out.
Yes, If done correctly it will work. Mine did for almost 7 months then RROD again. I then tried the X Clamp fix and Got another 5 months before another issue. So dont be so quick to spend 2 or 3 hundred on another box.. If yours is shot you dont have anything to loose. I was quoted 150 for repair through Microsoft and for another 49 I get new so Bump that idea.
i bum alllllll ur mums
Worked for me!!! dont know if it will go back but it worked
Anybody with a basic understanding of electronics knows that what you're doing with this trick is resetting an error code. My plan is to disassemble, clean the system boards, try the towel method and maybe get lucky with it heating solder enough to cause it to melt just enough to correct any cold solder joints and reset the error. The folks that say it only works a couple of days, I'd bet if you cracked the case you'd find dust and hair all over the damned thing...no wonder it's hosed. Any circuit board covered in dust and hair will fail in time. So dont blame MS...blame yourself you filthy beast.
I've been doing the towel trick for a while now. How long u ask? Months!! But the more u do it the quicker u will have to do it again. The last few week i've had to do it everytime i want to play a game to the point where it has stopped working and all i get is the e74 error. The towel trick was getting rid of it, but its not anymore. So i suggest u start putting a way a couple of bucks away every week becuz its gonna stop completely!!!! Trust me i kno!!!! I thought i was being smart and found a great solution and now i'm bored as hell now!!!!lol
could just unplug your fan(s) for 20 mins an let the red light flash then turn off your xbox plug fan in wait 20 mins an see if it works
did this on my 2 year old 360 and it works! but the graphics mess up after a couple of hours playing so it's better if you just open it and replace the solder yourself.
my xbox starts freeezing at sarting why?? after doing the towles trick
I wrapped mine in two towels for twenty minutes and let it cool for the same amount of time and it WORKS!! But now it has the rings again so should I do it again?
No need to insult people when they say it doesn't work. Because they could be right. The xbox 360 doesnt just RROD for one reason. THere is about 100 Errors and problems that can occur. The crappy solder connection is the most common so for most people this can work. I have been screwed so bad this trick used to last me a week no its like a few hours of playing. Still worth it lol. I have towel tricked like 100 times. So I think all that trouble is worth 300$
Just saw a comment up there lol think your so damn smart? Its reseting the error code? That makes zero sense. Its not like the 360 is like "Damn Im hot so this error code I got is going to incinerate then Im all good for a bit".
I did the towel trick one time & it worke forever, I done it 4 months ago & mines is still working from one try of this trick
DUDE THIS SHIT FUCKING WORKS.
wrap in towels for 30 mins. let cool for 15.
also, make sure all dust is out of ur console. blow on everything. i got my bike pump and pumped out all the holes. i even cleaned the controls (i went on a cleaning spaz)
and then i did the towell trick. complete success. it hasnt had 3 red lights in half a year now (cleaning may have helped ;) )
total workage
it works all the time dosnt matter how many times you too it all the better
i have the three rings and when i turn it on the fan work for a second then turns off is that what the three rings do
didnt work for me, but i believe i have a different error. the 3 rings are located in a different order.
Work as a temporary fix, those who didnt work is because ur ANA-HANA chip is very fucked
For a guy who's 360 is already out of warranty because he bought it used, and it was rebuilt from several different xbox 360's . And for a guy who has no electrical abilities BUT does know how to take a bath so obviously knows how to use towels, this trick is perfect. Seriously thats my situation and the warranty was a ready out before I even bought it so what did I have to lose. I did this four days ago and its still working.
Oh and why the heck did my 360 get the red ring of death after I plugged my ipod into it? A year before mine got it a friend of mine got the RROD too, after I plugged my ipod into his 360. I didn't make the connection between ipod and 360 until mine went ka-put though. At first I thought i gave it a virus or something that was dormant in my ipod, but then I did the towel trick and it fixed it, so that means its the solder connection? So WHY IS MY IPOD KILLING 360'S??
I got the E74 one-light error after watching a 3 hour DVD. Realised the scaler was working overtime upscaling the DVD to HD and overheated. I lowered my resolution down from 1080p to 780p. I don't really notice any difference and the scaler chip (e74 error) doesn't overheat anymore. Towel trick does work but it's short term. You need to lower your settings for an effective long-term fix.
im trying to force my 360 int0 the RROD, i kno ikno thats just obsurred, but i want 2 send it in under the rrod warranty, (which they extended by 3yrs)..i originnnaly fixd my 360 by using the Towel trick, but the next day, my screen went out again..i did have sound..but no pcture..Microsoft says theyd fix it for 140 buxx plus shipping..which equals out 2be enough 2buy a new 360...OR i can get it fixd 4free if i can force it into rrod...apparently the towel trick also will give you the rrod if you dont shut it off..but you gotta be carfeul not 2set ur xbox, and house on fire...i cant get my piece of ***% xbox to stay on tho!!! it sliek it wont die!!!! i cant beleive this, most people try n avoid the rrod..here i am trying to get it, and CANNOT..wtf..it shuts off after about 4 ins in t he towel, apparently the machine shuts itself off wen its dangerously hott..soo i guess my question is...how the heck am i gunn aforce my 360 into rrod wen it will not die!?? lOL feel free to IM me on AiM (aim=HTOWN994)
Ok, so I saw the 3 red rings of death and let's be honest here, wrapping the system in towels sounds ridiculous. I think we can all agree on that much. I was desperate though and decided to give it a try. I wrapped it up in 3 towels for about 20-25 minutes, then let it cool down for about another 15. When I put the HDD and the cables back and powered it on I didn't know what to expect. The last thing that I expected however was for my system to start up. This is just amazing and if I have to do this every few days or even hours, so be it. THIS IS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!
watch the vid look at the towls how they are arranged then when he comes back they have been moved
THANK U SOOO MUCH, was so upset when it came up with the dreaded lights of death but now the welcoming glow of green lights is beatifull and the sounds of bullets on COD are music to my ears.
Send me an email if you know exactly what spots need to be re-soldered. because i know that this isn't a permanent solution.
heres my email, haha urielcyndsolut@msn.com
omg just took it out the towels fukin intenese stuff. hopefully it works!!!!!
This REALLY does WORK!!!! my xbox had Rrod and i tried this out and it brought my xbox back to life! TRY IT OUT!

i live in india and have found out a few tricks about the towel method to maximise its potential .would also like to know is somebody has everrrr burnt a 360 during the towel process. TO MY KNOWLEDGE I DONT THINK SO as i have had the experience of heating my 360 about 300+ times during the period of 4 years in which it has worked for me everytime EYERYTIME. i usually use 2towels i dont seperate the HD but only the COMPONENT cable and upon covering the 360 with 2 towels properly i take out a bedsheet and wrap around the 2 towels not as heavily as the two towels itself.
this provides rapid and more secured collection of heat inside the 360 and hence the 3 flashing red lights turn to two in like 20 to 25 mins max . then i connect the component cable and immediately switch on my 360 WITHOUT LETTING IT COOL DOWN. with my experience i have seen that if i let my 360 to cool down then the average amount of green starts that i get after each heating time are around 2 to 3 over a period of 24 to 48 hours.
if i dont let it cool down and on it immediately after heating then the average green start range increases to upto 6 to 7 times over a period of 24 to 72 hours. so i am able to play my 360 upto 4 days with a single heat.
also i have seen that this frequency of green starts after heating is usually more during summer months and it falls down considerably during the winter months
TOWEL TRICK IS THE BEST REVITALIZER THAT A FAULTY CONSOLE LIKE 360 CAN EVER HAVE
yo that is the bomb diggidy fresh it works
i heard microsft doesnt fix it they just send u a brand new one
I have a chipped console and have been banned and my console works fine, but i want to get back online. I want to get 3 red lights and send it to microsoft to recieve a new console. Anyone please got any ideas?
it works but at a very high risk.
what your doing is literally melting your components back into place. with a towel around your xbox, how does it cool off? it doesnt. and what happens to your motherboard when it melts too much? it doesznt take a genius to puzzle those pieces together to see what might happen.
just send it in and get it fixed for a small $25.
better sell it while it lasts
It motherfu*#King worked! I wrapped it up like a newborn baby in the middle of a snow storm in alaska for 20 minutes. I then let it cool for 10 minutes with a small fan on it and YEP it worked....just loaded the harddrive and its still working. Will definitely update how long it works! This comment section has been going for 3 years!! Wow!
Yes it works, A lad at work told about this!
So I thought i`d give it a try although I only used one towel and left the arial lead unplugged.
yea make sure you dont forget about it i left mine on went to mow the lawn and saw smoke coming from my window while i was outside long story short the fire gutted my room be careful
ok so i tryed this just now but heres what happened i tryed it and my xbox shut itself off in a fast 5-7mins i unwrapped it plugged everything back in and turned it on i have the green lights but still tv screen black!!! please help
This crap better work i havent played in 2 years and im ticked!!!!!!!!!
Do I have to take off the cooler or can I just leave it on ?
Brother did this for me a few days ago, without the Xbox plugged in though. He simply wrapped it in a towel and left it for a few hours. Lo and behold, a 360 that had been flashing three red lights at me for months and had been stowed away (thought to be doomed to Hell) was resurrected! Everything worked as normal, but I wasn't naive enough to think the problem would disappear magically. I knew it was a temporary fix despite not knowing anything about this whole towel thing.
Three days on and the Xbox froze on me today whilst playing some music. It's now flashing those angry little red lights again and refusing to work at all again.
I've had it for a number of years now though, am planning to go out and get one of the newer models now.
bought one of ebay worked for 3 months and got e74 error tried the towel trick and worked perfect! time for fight night round 4
Another option to fix broken Xboxes and other game consoles is iFixit. They produce free repair guides for xbox and ps3's, and sell the parts to do the repairs. They've got a RROD kit that a friend of mine used to fix his Xbox with: http://www.ifixit.com/Game-Console-Parts/Xbox-360-
just get a xbox360 slim im getting one this friday and getting halo 3.I had a xbox360 pro about 4 years ago and it lasted a good 3 years then it wnet down and my uncle is a xbox36- RROD wiz he fixed it worked for about 4 days fixed it again 3 days another did not work but then until this day i just said WTF! i should have done this a fukin long time ago.My buddy Dylan he said he did this towel trick lasted him for 6 months!! then did it a again onther 6 months but im still getting a xbox360 slim cause they dnt got rrod so get the xbox360 slim for only 199.99! at www.gamestop.com
i have 2 lights, one on the top left the other bottom right. will this trick be effective for my problem ?
Hey This only works because the extreme heat increase caused by the towels is allowing the solder inside the machine to re-melt and solder together. Although this helps your initial problem this also greatly fatigues your boards and actually does much more damage in the long run causing problems such a micro-cracks which are not fixable. Unless you want to have to fork out money for a new box shortly after 80% of the time, have a little patience and go through Microsoft.
Trying it right now
Trying this and waiting to see what happens. Miss my black ops
Wow that's crazy. I still can't believe that worked. I just let mine over heat till the two red lights started flashing and it cut off. Mines working great thanks alot
Mine worked but it keeps freezing so I turn it off straight away should I try the trick again and see if it stops freezing ??
Hey as opposed to the towel trick listen to MutantFreak! As I said before the towel trick just isn't worth it you cause more damage in the long run.
Shot!!!! You are the best Thank you so Much!!!!!!!!!
Shot!!!! You are the best Thank you so Much!!!!!!!!!
I think is better if you know some one who can upgrade the fans to a better ones and also make sure there is no problem with the system
you can unban yourself via a usb drive
I did it and it worked! i then took it back to the shop and got £65 for it wich i used to put towards a new xbox with kennect bundle! That should keep the boys quiet! happy days!
It only took 5 minutes before my xbox shut itself down. Once I started it back up it ran just fine. Sweet
TOOTHPICK TRICK - faster, easier, and less damaging to your xbox. not a hoax... look up the youtube video for visual aid.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEf-cZPC3pw&feature
simple steps:
1. Take out harddrive, AV cord, network adapter, any other storage devices (leaving only power cord in)
2. While xbox is off.. insert two toothpicks in the holes in the back of the xbox (where the fans are) from the right side - 2nd row down, 6 holes over. from the left - 2nd row down, 4 holes over.
3. HOLD ON TO TOOTHPICK ON THE RIGHT SIDE. LEAVE BOTH OF THEM HANGING OUT ABOUT A HALF INCH.
4. Turn on xbox. The right toothpick will move slightly every couple seconds and you will hear a clicking sound. Make sure and hold on to the right one the entire time.
5. In almost exactly 5 minutes your xbox will either show two flashing red lights, or will automatically turn off. Turn your xbox off manually if it doesn't do so itself.
6. Wait for about an hour for best results. you can check and see if it worked right away but then turn it back off and let it cool down.
WATCH THE VIDEO!! ITS REALLY EASY TO DO AND DOESN'T TAKE LONG. PLUS IT DOESN PRODUCE AS MUCH HEAT AS THE TOWEL TRICK AND IS SAFER FOR YOUR 360! ENJOY!
This will be my third time first time it lasted a month 2nd time it last about 2 weeks and this time it only lasted for about 5 days
leave a dry towel in the freezer for about an hour take it out and wrape it around your console there u go and you can still play while the towel is on!
It worked didn't believe either
Worked for me! The only thing was my Xbox didnt stay turned on when the red rings appeared. It would automatically turn off after about 5 minutes so I had to stay by the thing and turn it back on everytime I heard it turn itself off.
Still worked a treat though. That was the first time I ever got the red rings since first buying my Xbox since it was first released so I cant complain as its had a great run.
right i got rid of the rrod but it still freezes someone plssss help but this does stop the rrod
yeah good luck with the 360 Slim, hope you don't get an Open Tray Error like i did
When I first got the red ring of death I was clueless.I read about the towel trick online and the other stuff telling you how to open it up and fix it yourself.Of course I was like yea sure this is B.S.So I took it to some guy on craigs list that claimed he could fix it for 40 bucks.3 Weeks later after he supposidly fixed it the same thing happened.I was going to throw the damn thing away in the garbage and I decided to try the towel trick first for the hell of it.Well it worked and 3 months later it still works fine with no problems.
worked for me!
Amazing!! Really did work!! Thanks :D
Towel trick just resets the system into thinking its fixed. Within a week or two the screen will start to freeze and rrod again, this is becuase the gpu joints have become disconected from the motherboard. The only way to truly fix the xbox is something called the x-clamp fix. You reaply heat paste, put the heatsinks on tighter for more heat disapation and then either with a heat gun or Alterantive method ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcyYG-boWvM )the gpu joints get resoldered into the motherboard. Then overheat it to reset the system and then you got urself a working xbox360.
xbox had no red lights whatsoever just fuzzy screen as though not tuned in..tried towel trick for 20 mins back on black ops now has it worked thx
I had a 1st gen xbox for about 2-3 years before it got RROD. Tried the towel trick with 2 towels for about 20mins. multiple times. Never worked.Pretty sure i damaged it in some way.The fans would not turn on at all eventually. So i pretty much said bullshit. My problem was the xclamp, which I bought the repair kit for.But didnt work due to me cooking my xbox. about 1 yr ago i bought a refurbished xbox from ebay. Worked like a man!
Until today :[. It is one of the newest old style xboxs. With HDMI and everything. I was attempting to beat BYOB on GH World tour. [Last song on expert] >:[. When my speakers made a horrible noise and the xbox froze. Turned it off , and upon turning it on again. Red Rings of Faggot death!!!!!!!! I tried about 20 times and NO GO.I was going insane , hitting my xbox. attempted to take it apart . Cleaned it out .
I tried it and it didn't work, it only caught on fire and when I sent it in to Microsoft they sent it back with a note saying "unfixable" with a free Xbox live memebership. Well How in the world am I going to get xbox live without a 360! So I decide for u guys not to use the towel trick unless u want it to end up like mine, no matter what the others say! My suggesten is to send it in to Microsoft as soon as u can!
ATTENTION EVERYONE! THIS DOES NOT WORK IT FRIES YOUR MOTHERBOARD IT ONLY WORKS FOR 20 TO 72 HOURS. DO NOT TRY THIS! YOUR WARRANTY WILL BE RUINED AND YOU'LL HAVE A USELESS BROKEN XBOX 360! I DID THIS AND I HAD TO TAKE IT APART AND FIX IT! NOT ONCE BUT TWICE! SO DON'T TRY THIS IT DOESN'T WORK! THIS IS JUST FOR FELLOW GAMERS. DON'T TRY IT!
Doesn't work overheated my xboox
but the thing is did all yall have 3 red rings or no if didnt well ur juss soo lucky
9/9/2011
got a rrod from ebay wrapped in towel for 15 mins works a dream. now playing cod 4.
Had done XClamp fix before, bought new 360 Slim, decided to try to resurrect this using penny trick and towel trick. Currently heating up in a sleeping bag, but screen is on! Had this since launch day and it keeps on reviving, definitely got a zombie Xbox...
It worked for me, not at first it took like a half hour but its been on for almost 3 days now so cool....
don't wast a half hour of your life just throw your xbox 360 away and get a xbox slim.
This tricked worked long enough for me to transfer some of my precious save games to an external hard drive - ie, well enough for me.
it lives =)
Towel trick, if it works... SELL IT WHILE IT WORKS! cuz it wont for long. might as well get everything you can out of it then buy a new one
Worked for me but crasher after an hour. Now it does not boot.
I will do a permanent fix. I will buy a PS3.
dude you have two xboxs cuz the towels were not in the same spot and the reason your gun did that was because of the rubber o rings have dry rotted
Okay the only reason i can say why this works, is because the soldier MS used on the circuit is a ceramic/enamel like soldier and if not heated hot a enough is very brittle and can crack quite easily, this whole wrapping up with the towel ordeal may actually heat it up hot enough so re soldier the joints, thats my only guess.
Talks about a shitty Robocop gun for ever... He is a worthless piece of shit....
my xbox wont overheat i left it for 30 minuates then i just left it there then i came and felt it and it was kind of cold to be honest the fans arn't spinning tho plese help :(
A lot of specialists say that loan aid a lot of people to live the way they want, because they are able to feel free to buy needed stuff. Furthermore, various banks offer short term loan for different classes of people.
did it and it worked for me.. if you want it to stay fixed you can turn the fans to 12v (see youtube) and apply new cooling paste
I spent 30$ on a Candy dispenser then today traded it for a Xbox with 3 rings I put a tal in the dryer an then wrapped my Xbox in it the. It had 4 lights that were red I gouged what that ment it said that it ment that it was not connected to the tv plugged it in and it work and how long does this last
im trying it now i hope it works
We had my husbands xbox fixed 4 years due to red ring by microsoft. Well a few days ago if finally died again. ( Got it the first day it was out so not to bad). Just towel wrapped it and it worked. Were not counting on it being a fix but giving it enough life to get the data off to put on our new xbox slim.
sounds to me like the older model xbox's , the towel trick would work but not on the newer models if u have anearly model of xbox 360 it shuld work just fine but a newer one is a bit more tricky these JAPOS made shyt complicated so u would have to purchase there products or buy new ones ...more money for them ..less for us ..

Ok, seriously, i thought this was a bunch of crap when I read it, but i just did it , and it works...i wrapped it and then turned it on, and the lights went green...but the screen froze and went blank.....so i turned it off again, and let it cool some more....lo and behold , fully functional xbox 360...will post again to let you guys know how long it lasts, and if it works a second time.
